Two of my favorites were not listed but are worth a shout out! El Itacate has the best (and most plentiful) breakfasts in town - handmade tortillas, lots of eggs, Mexican specialties, cafe ole, juice and sweet bread. For lunch - a comida corrida everyday, 2-3 dollars. I love it! There is one on Altamirano, another on a street near the School for Foreign Students.

Another favorite is Pronto in Tavola - at a new location on clavijero - i think. Has the best italian food I found in Xalapa. I can't wait to go back!

Marie, our Amiga,

You took a great picture of the girl with her little sister. Perhaps when we return next year or so we can give her a photo or two of herself and her sister and perhaps a few others.

The little boy that followed us around does indeed have an "infectious" smile.

Unfortunately, the photo of myself is a somewhat "profile" photo and does add a few pounds as photos do ;-)

Mexicans are extremely hospitable and proud of their country. They love to display their communities and will go out of their way to make strangers feel welcome. They can usually spot us (I have no idea how they do it.) Those who have been in the US will tell you about their experience, those who have not been to our country will say they want to go.

Americans should be grateful for the friendship of Mexicans.

Thanks for the post. I have not heard of Coyolillo. I and my friend Eric went to watch the last parade in Veracruz City. I have video, but it needs to be edited down.

I like your images and it caught my attention since I used to live in Xalapa and still have a few very dear friends there. Please say hello to Roy Dudley for me. I used to do mountain bike trips with him.

I also have some images of Xalapa, Callejon del Diamante etc that I'd be glad to share.

Sincerely,
Eric Duran

I tried to find Ghal, which is supposed to be at the intersection of Xalapa and Ruiz Contina. No luck. Any suggestions that would help pin the location down better?

I was just in Xalapa in January and forgive because I can't remember street names. But on the same street as Cafe Lindo, there's a small alley that goes to the right and there is a wonderful Cuban restaurant. And just past there is an upstairs joint that serves international food. If you want tabouli or kabobs. it's the place to go! If I remember correctly, everything on their menu is natural so you can get really great smoothies along with your meal!

Stephen,

Sorry about that piece of unwelcome news, but I didn't even know it myself until John Bokma sent in that interesting bit of information. They say forewarned is forearmed, but in this case, it's more like what Roseanne Rosanna Danna used to say: "If it's not one thing, it's another!!!" :)

Hello Marie,

Nice work on formatting the post about "Things To Do" in Xalapa. I especially appreciate the link to the Spanish link detailing each park by name and with a photo.

I do NOT appreciate learning that my dear spouse and I will soon be living on the edge of an "extinct volcano" because every time I see the statistics about such things, the stats seem to indicate that just enough time has finally passed so it could blow up any minute!

Now, I suppose Orizaba could still be a problem even with some distance; and then what about John's site that says he could see another one on not so clear a day (translation = its close by ;-) )

Oh well, I suppose I won't even know it when it hits me just like some of the tornadoes that blow through Wisconsin, USA, in minutes and people don't even know they're coming.
